About Us

California Librarians Black Caucus (CLBC) is a statewide organization affiliated with the Black Caucus of the American Library Association (BCALA).

Established in 1972 to eradicate inequities facing Black/African American in the library workplace, CLBC acts as an ombudsman for African American communities regarding the provision of library and information services; promoting literature and information by and about African Americans; evaluating publishers regarding the quality of materials by and about African Americans; and challenging libraries statewide to provide maximum access to such materials.

CLBC strives to adhere to its basic goals: to make the library profession aware of the interests of African American librarians and to eradicate inequities that affect people of color in the profession and, consequently, in the community.
